Volunteer work has a wide range


Under et EU project, Grundtvig Senior Volunteers we were a group of 6 people from HARJA going to Lithuania in May 2012 in cooperation with Kaunas Technical University to do volunteer work in connection with the university and with Kaunas City Museum.

This work consisted in many different things carried out together with the Lithuanian volunteers. This was  for example:

  • Making of old shoes, purses, belts and balls for teaching school children about old clothings and customs together with Lithuanian volunteers and youngsters
  • Field research to find iron slags – as well as pottery and to create a small museum in an iron production village (Visikao Ruda). Ruda stands for iron production.
  • Analyzing of iron age grave bones from burned corpses from the iron age, where very small pieces were left including very small bronze artifacts.
  • Excavating – or trying to excavate a fortress wall at a castle.
